Leather isn’t Leather or is it?

Your super cheap “leather” wallet is mostly glue, not leather.

We all love a bargain, but what is it that you are actually buying.

But the tag says its “Genuine Leather” and yes it may be technically leather, The sad truth is, that to called leather, it only needs to have approximately 20% leather in it . These super cheap, too good to be true “leather goods” are generally made from a product called bonded leather, and yes it only has to have approx 20% leather in it, the rest is glue, well polyurethane to be exact.

Polyurethane is what skateboard wheels are made of , and hoses, varnish, carpet underlay and high strength glue. Not the ideal ingredient for a wallet that will stand the test of time and age with character and grace.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t begrudge anyone buying what they can afford, I am just trying to let you know what it is you are buying.

If you want 100% leather, you know, the stuff that lasts nearly forever, softens and moulds to your use, looks better as it ages and is luxurious to look at and touch, well, you will need to spend a bit more.

A BIT more, I hear you say. Ok in some instances it might be a lot more, but it dosn’t have to be. A high quality leather wallet, made with artisanal skill and passion can be bought for very reasonable prices.

At Wild Savana we only use the best grades of leather and meticulously hand craft it into stunning wallets. We hand dye most of our wallets for extra uniqueness and hand stitch them to ensure maximum strength. Read our article about why we only use hand stitching.

Our goal is always to produce premium products, made with the utmost care and offer them to you at great value for money prices.
